Welcome to Nottawa
I'm excited to publicly announce Nottawa, a new macOS app for creating live audioreactive visuals.
What is Nottawa?
Nottawa is a live visuals studio made for creators, musicians, DJs, VJs, and artists. It's designed to be used by technical and non-technical people alike.
You can put up a Nottawa feed at a party, a gym, a rave, a concert, a yoga studio, or at home on the wall.
Why build Nottawa?
The vision for Nottawa has always been to make a totally free app which lets anyone make awesome live audioreactive visuals. The most important word here is free! Nottawa has no trials, no monthly costs, no hidden features, and no sign ups.
There are a lot of VJ and live visual apps out there. There are some seriously awesome tools for pros out there and I'd highly recommend them.
Nottawa is a free alternative to apps like TouchDesigner, Resolume, & Synesthesia.
How does it work?
Making visuals in Nottawa is super easy. Our main workflow comes from connecting a source to an effect.
What makes it special?
Nottawa's got some amazing features straight out of the box.
Audioreactivity
Nottawa can listen to music through your speakers, microphone, or iPhone to drive its effects to the groove of the music.
We sample the BPM, Loudness and frequency ranges of the track in realtime. You're then able to use these signals to drive your parameters to the beat.

Feedback
The Feedback effect is a big favorite. We keep a buffer of the last 30 frames which we can then mix back into the feed, creating this spacey, dream-like effect.
We can take it further and create entire scenes just from feeding back a simple pattern.

Effects & Shaders
A massive amount of Nottawa's functionality comes from open-source shaders found mostly on ShaderToy.
